COVID-19 NUMBERS

THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPORTED TWO COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS, 241 NEW CASES, AND 1,883 ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES IN THE EIGHT COUNTY NORTHEAST TENNESSEE REGION THURSDAY. THE TWO NEW DEATHS WERE BOTH IN SULLIVAN COUNTY. SULLIVAN COUNTY ALSO HAD THE MOST NEW CASES WITH 74, AND ACTIVE CASES WITH 701. WASHINGTON COUNTY IS NEXT WITH 496 ACTIVE CASES. STATEWIDE THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPORTS THERE HAVE BEEN A TOTAL OF 225,658 CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19, 12,249 PROBABLE CASES, AND 2,872 CONFIRMED DEATHS. THAT’S AN INCREASE OF 2,046 CASES, AND 41 ADDITIONAL DEATHS SINCE WEDNESDAY.

KINGSPORT PD SEARCHING FOR MOTHER, THREE CHILDREN

KINGSPORT POLICE ARE ASKING FOR HELP LOCATING A WOMAN WHO THEY CONSIDER MISSING, AND HER THREE CHILDREN, WHO THEY CONSIDER MISSING AND ENDANGERED. 31 YEAR OLD WHITNEY ELLIOT FAILED TO MAKE A COURT APPEARANCE ON WEDNESDAY. ELLIOT AND HER THREE CHILDREN THREE YEAR OLD CLOE BARNETTE, 33 YEAR OLD CREED ELLIOT, AND 1 YEAR OLD ZANDYN ELLIOT, ARE BELIEVED TO POSSIBLY BE TRAVELING IN A SILVER KIA SEDONA MINI VAN. ANYONE WHO MIGHT HAVE INFORMATION ON THEIR WHEREABOUTS IS ASKED TO CALL THE KINGSPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT.

128 STUDENTS, 4 STAFF AT DANIEL BOONE HIGH SCHOOL IN QUARANTINE

WASHINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL OFFICIALS HAVE CONFIRMED THAT 128 STUDENTS HAVE BEEN QUARANTINED OR ARE IN ISOLATION, DUE TO COVID-19. SIX OF THOSE STUDENTS HAVE TESTED POSITIVE, AND FOUR STAFF MEMBERS ARE ALSO IN QUARANTINE. DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS DR BILL FLANARY SAYS HE’S NOT REALLY SURE OF THE SOURCE OF THE INFECTION. OFFICIALS AT DANIEL BOONE SAY THAT DESPITE THE LARGE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN QUARANTINE, THE 50TH ANNUAL MUSKET BOWL GAME TONIGHT AGAINST DAVID CROCKET IS STILL SCHEDULED TO BE PLAYED.

HEALTH WAGON AWARDED 793,500 GRANT FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES

THE APPALACHIAN REGIONAL COMMISSION AWARDED A 793,500 DOLLAR GRANT FOR SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA MEDICAL ASSISTED TREATMENT SERVICES. SO FAR THE CLINIC HAS HELPED 22 MEMBERS RECOVER FROM DRUG ADDICTIONS THROUGH THE PROGRAM. TERESA TYSON, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE HEALTH WAGON, SAYS THE MONEY WILL BE USED TO EXPAND THEIR SERVICES, INCLUDING ADDING A PHYSICIAN, AN ADDICTION SPECIALIST, AND COUNSELOR. THE GRANT MONEY WILL ALSO BE USED TO PROVIDE FUNDING SUPPORT FOR PATIENTS.

LEADERS GATHER TO LAUNCH AEROSPACE PARK

COMMUNITY LEADERS GATHERED THURSDAY MORNING, FOR A SITE LAUNCH CEREMONY AT AEROSPACE PARK AT THE TRI CITIES AIRPORT. SITE CONSTRUCTION IS LARGELY COMPLETE, WITH ONLY FINISHING GRADING, FINAL TOPSOIL, AND SEEDING ALONG WITH SITE ACCESS ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION TO BE COMPLETED BY THE SUMMER OF 2021. THE MAJORITY OF THE SITE IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS, EVEN AS THE FINAL CONSTRUCTION WILL BE ENDING.  TRI-CITIES AIRPORT AUTHORITY STAFF CONTINUE TO HEAVILY PROMOTE THE AVAILABILITY OF THE SITE TO TARGET INDUSTRIES.
