CARJACKING

A GREENEVILLE MAN IS CHARGED WITH CARJACKING.  MONDAY NIGHT, JOHNSON CITY POLICE WERE CALLED TO MCDONALD’S ON WEST MARKET AND AN INVESTIGATION FOUND JONATHON MARONEY ALLEGEDLY TOOK A VEHICLE AT KNIFEPOINT.  THE VEHICLE WAS ABANDONED IN GREENE COUNTY AND MARONEY WAS ARRESTED NEARBY FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION.  MARONEY WILL BE ARRAIGNED TODAY IN WASHINGTON COUNTY SESSIONS COURT.

PAIR SENTENCED FOR TERRORIZING ELDERLY

TWO PRINCETON WEST VIRGINIA RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN SENTENCED FOR THEIR ROLES IN A SPREE OF ARMED HOME INVASIONS AND KIDNAPPINGS THROUGHOUT APPALACHIA, WHERE ELDERLY RESIDENTS WERE TARGETED.  JOSHUA SMALL AND JONI AMBER JOHNSON WOULD FORCE THEIR WAY IN, HOLD THE VICTIMS AT GUNPOINT, BIND THE VICTIMS AND RANSACK THE HOUSE.  IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, SMALL STRUCK A 72-YEAR OLD MAN IN THE NECK, BOUND HIM AND SHOVED HIM DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS.  IN TOTAL, THE PAIR TERRORIZED AND ROBBED 7 ELDERLY VICTIMS.  SMALL WILL SERVE 30 YEARS IN PRISON WHILE JOHNSON RECEIVED A 25-YEAR SENTENCE. 

THEFT OF PROPERTY

ABOUT 9:40 PM TUESDAY NIGHT JOHNSON CITY POLICE WERE ON PATROL IN A WALMART PARKING LOT, WHEN THEY NOTICED AN OLDER MODEL HONDA CIVIC THAT APPEARED TO BE SPAY PAINTED. WHEN THEY CHECKED THE REGISTRATION, OFFICERS FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STOLEN OUT OF WASHINGTON COUNTY. 28 YEAR OLD NATHAN WELLS OF JOHNSON CITY WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR BEING IN POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE. HE WAS CHARGED WITH THEFT OF PROPERTY OVER 1,000 DOLLARS, AND IS SCHEDULED TO BE ARRAIGNED THIS AFTERNOON.

CRIMINAL SIMULATION

A JONESBOROUGH MAN WAS ARRESTED AROUND 12:40 PM TUESDAY, AND CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL SIMULATION. POLICE SAY THAT ON MAY 7TH, 23 YEAR OLD JOSHUA ROSENBAUM ATTEMPTED TO USE A COUNTERFEIT 100 DOLLAR BILL TO PAY FOR HIS ORDER AT MCDONALDS ON THE BOBBY HICKS HIGHWAY IN GRAY. HE LEFT THE BUSINESS BEFORE OFFICERS ARRIVED, AND A WARRANT WAS ISSUED FOR HIS ARREST. AROUND NOON TUESDAY, ROSENBAUM VISITED THE JONESBOROUGH POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHILE HE WAS THERE, OFFICERS RAN HIS INFORMATION AND FOUND THE WARRANT OUT OF JOHNSON CITY. HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL SIMULATION. HE SET TO BE ARRAIGNED TODAY.

HAWKINS COUNTY SCHOOLS CLOSED FRIDAY

OFFICIALS WITH HAWKINS COUNTY SCHOOLS ANNOUNCED TUESDAY MORNING, THAT ALL COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED FRIDAY JANUARY 31ST DUE TO INCREASED ILLNESS. DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS MATT HIXSON SAID IN A POST THAT THEY’RE SEEING MANY IF THEIR TEACHERS, STAFF, AND BUS DRIVERS AFFECTED BY BOTH THE FLU AND STOMACH VIRUSES. THE STAFF WILL USE FRIDAY TO THOROUGHLY CLEAN AND DISINFECT ALL CLASSROOMS, COMMON AREAS, CAFETERIAS AND BUSES FOR THE NEXT WEEK.

FIVE ARRESTED AFTER CALL OF SHOTS FIRED

FIVE PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED ON VARIOUS CHARGES, AFTER AUTHORITIES IN GREENE COUNTY INITIALLY RESPONDED TO A CALL ABOUT SHOTS FIRED OVER THE WEEKEND. ACCORDING TO A RELEASE FROM THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE, DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO THE CALL ON PONCHO ROAD SATURDAY. WHILE THERE, OFFICERS FOUND FIVE PEOPLE, SOME HIDING IN AN RV. DEPUTIES SEIZED A NUMBER OF ITEMS, INCLUDING A .22 ASSAULT RIFLE, MARIJUANA, METH, AND CASH. 60 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER BISHOP, 38 YEAR OLD HARLEY HUMPHREY, CAROLYN MCDANIEL, 45 YEAR OLD VERONICA BROWN AND 35 YEAR OLD PATRICK YOUNT WERE ALL CHARGED.

ONE INJURED ONE DEAD IN SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH

ONE PERSON IS DEAD AND ONE INJURED, IN A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH IN GREENE COUNTY JUST BEFORE 5:30PM MONDAY. ACCORDING TO THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL, 38 YEAR OLD GABRIELLE BOYD OF GREENEVILLE WAS DRIVING A HONDA URX AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, WHEN IT LOST CONTROL IN THE 2600 BLOCK OF WEST ALLEN’S BRIDGE ROAD, LEFT THE ROADWAY AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE. BOYD WAS KILLED IN THE CRASH. A PASSENGER 56 YEAR OLD TERRY BURRIELL ALSO OF GREENEVILLE WAS INJURED IN THE CRASH.
