BRISTOL TN HOUSE FIRE

THREE FIREFIGHTERS WERE TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL AFTER A HOUSE FIRE IN BRISTOL TENNESSEE.  IT HAPPENED AROUND 2 FRIDAY MORNING IN THE 800 BLOCK OF KENTUCKY AVENUE.  ONE FIREFIGHTER SUSTAINED BURNS AND TWO OTHERS SUFFERED LEG INJURIES.  ALL WERE TREATED AND RELEASED.  THE RESIDENTS OF THE HOUSE WERE ABLE TO GET OUT AND WEREN’T HURT.  THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS BEING INVESTIGATED.

MISSING MAN FOUND

A 77-YEAR-OLD JOHNSON CITY MAN WHO WAS MISSING AND THE SUBJECT OF A SILVER ALERT HAS BEEN FOUND.  THE TENNESSEE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION SAYS DALE COVINGTON HAS BEEN LOCATED.  THE AGENCY HAD ASKED FOR HELP FINDING COVINGTON, AS HE HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION THAT COULD HAVE AFFECTED HIM BEING ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY. 

MISSING TEEN FOUND

A MISSING WASHINGTON COUNTY TEEN HAS BEEN FOUND.  THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS 15-YEAR-OLD ANA ESTRADA LEON WAS FOUND SAFE IN NORTH CAROLINA, AND IS NOW BACK WITH HER PARENTS.  WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF KEITH SEXTON SAYS HIS AGENCY WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE T-B-I AND THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING AND EXPLOITED CHILDREN IN TRYING TO FIND HER.  LEON WAS FOUND IN THE CHARLOTTE AREA.

YOUNGKIN—ABORTION

VIRGINIA GOVERNOR GLENN YOUNGKIN WANTS TO BAN ABORTIONS IN THE COMMONWEALTH AFTER 15 WEEKS.  HE SUPPORTS EXCEPTIONS FOR INCEST, RAPE OR WHEN THE MOTHER’S LIFE IS AT RISK.  YOUNGKIN SAYS HE’S OPTMISTIC HE CAN GET BI-PARTISAN SUPPORT DURING NEXT YEAR’S LEGISLATIVE SESSION.  CURRENTLY, DEMOCRATS CONTROL THE SENATE WHILE REPUBLICANS HOLD A MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES.  YOUNGKIN HAS ASKED A GROUP OF LAWMAKERS TO WORK ON A COMPROMISE BILL.

GREENEVILLE SAFE ZONE

THE GREENEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS A “SAFE EXCHANGE ZONE” THAT’LL ALLOW PEOPLE TO MEET SAFELY IN AN AREA TO PURCHASE GOODS FROM OTHERS OR EXCHANGE CHILDREN.  IT’S AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 200 NORTH COLLEGE AND IS WELL LIT AND UNDER VIDEO SURVEILLANCE.  POLICE SAY WHILE IT’S INTENDED TO PROVIDE EXTRA SAFETY, CAUTION SHOULD STILL BE USED.  IF THERE ARE CONCERNS ABOUT VIOLENCE DURING A CUSTODY EXCHANGE, CALL 9-1-1.

FORMER TROOPER REMAINS JAILED

A FORMER TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER ACCUSED OF ASSAULT AND VIOLATING AN ORDER OF PROTECTION HAS BEEN DENIED BOND.  NICHOLAS COLLINS IS CHARGED IN SULLIVAN COUNTY AND CRIMINAL COURT JUDGE JAMES GOODWIN SAID THERE ARE CONCERNS ABOUT COLLINS MAKING HIS NEXT COURT APPEARANCE AND THAT HE COULD ALSO BE A SAFETY RISK TO HIS ESTRANGED FAMILY.  COLLINS WILL RETURN TO COURT AUGUST 18TH.

INCREASED DUI ENFORCEMENT

THE JOHNSON CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL  HAVE ADDITIONAL OFFICERS ON THE STREETS THIS FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND, AND THEY’LL BE LOOKING FOR IMPARIED DRIVERS.  THE AGENCY WILL PARTNER WITH THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY SAFETY OFFICE FOR THE “BOOZE IT AND LOSE IT” CAMPAIGN.  IF YOU PLAN TO DRINK ALCOHOL, HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER OR USE A RIDE SHARE SERVICE.  IF YOU SEE AN IMPAIRED DRIVER ON THE ROAD, CALL 9-1-1.
